Who We Are
A North Shore Plumbing Company, Not a Franchise
RG Fort & Sons has been plumbing Suffolk County homes and businesses since 2002. We are family owned and operated, we hold New York Master Plumber license 48986-MP, and we carry an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
What that means in practice: when you call, you are talking to the company that will do the work. There is no dispatch layer, no subcontracting your job out to whoever is available, and no upselling script. If a repair will hold, we will tell you it will hold. If it will not, we will tell you that too.
We cover residential and commercial plumbing, heating and boilers, oil to gas conversions, and radiant heat design and installation, across St. James, Smithtown, Stony Brook, East Setauket, Port Jefferson and the surrounding north shore.
What We Do
Plumbing & Heating Services
Everything below is handled in house by licensed technicians. Residential and commercial, emergency and scheduled.
Residential Plumbing
Repairs, replacements, and new installations for single-family homes — from a running toilet to a full re-pipe.
Commercial Plumbing
Grease traps, floor and trench drains, commercial fixtures, and water pressure regulation for storefronts and offices.
Water Heaters & Boilers
Repair and replacement of tank, tankless, and indirect water heaters, plus hot water and steam boilers.
Oil to Gas Conversions
Gas piping, appliance connection, venting, and permitting for homes moving off oil heat.
Radiant Heat
Design and installation of radiant floor heating, including zoning and manifold layout.
Drain & Sewer Cleaning
Camera inspection, hydro jetting, and repair for clogged or collapsed drain and sewer lines.
Faucets & Fixtures
Faucet, sink, toilet, and appliance installation and repair, residential and commercial.
Standby Generators
Automatic standby generator installation, including the gas piping side of the job.
Why Homeowners Call Us Back
Four Things We Do Differently
We Diagnose Before We Quote
Camera inspection on drain lines, real leak tracing, and a look at the whole system. You should never be paying to replace something on a guess.
The Price Comes First
You hear the number before the work starts, including the after-hours rate if you are calling at 3am. No invoice surprises.
We Pull the Permits
Gas piping, boilers, new fixtures, and sewer work generally need a permit. We file under our own Master Plumber license instead of handing you a form.
We Are Actually Local
Our shop is in St. James. For most of the north shore that is a fifteen minute drive, which is the difference between a wet floor and a wet ceiling.
Plumbing Emergency Right Now?
We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shut off the water at the main if you can reach it safely, then call us.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What Areas of Suffolk County Do You Serve?
We are based in St. James and work across the north shore — St. James, Smithtown, Nesconset, Stony Brook, Setauket, Port Jefferson, Belle Terre, Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue, and the surrounding communities. If you are unsure whether you are in range, call and ask.
Do You Really Answer the Phone at 2am?
Yes. Plumbing emergencies do not keep business hours, so neither do we. You will get a person, and you will get an honest arrival window rather than an open-ended promise.
Are You Licensed and Insured?
Yes. We hold New York Master Plumber license 48986-MP and carry full liability and workers' compensation coverage. We pull permits in our own name for work that requires them. We also hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Do You Charge for Estimates?
Estimates are free. For diagnostic work — camera inspection of a drain line, tracing a hidden leak — there is a service charge, and we will tell you what it is before we come out, not after.
Do You Do Commercial Work as Well as Residential?
Both. Roughly speaking, residential covers repairs, replacements, re-pipes, and heating; commercial covers grease traps, floor and trench drains, commercial boilers and water heaters, backflow testing, and pressure regulation.
How Long Have You Been in Business?
RG Fort & Sons was founded in 2002 and is family owned and operated. Peter Fort is a licensed Master Plumber and still runs the company.
